November 2016 - I decided to use some of my Air Miles and set about planning a trip to the far east. After some consideration and discussions with people who are more informed than I am, I settled on Vietnam as my destination.
I figured that 10 days would be enough to go globetrotting alone and booked the flights before researching the best places to visit. It quickly became apparent that 10 days was not going to be enough to cover all the places I wanted to go so I had to cut down on the options. For this trip, and based on the time of year, I opted to stay in the South and Central regions. The idea was to see a major city, a small town and an island resort. The decision was made to go to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Hoi An and Phu Quoc Island.
Details of each day and the adventures that occurred can be found in my dedicated Vietnam travel blog.
Overall, Vietnam proved to be a great location for photography. Despite the language barrier, everyone I met was friendly and helpful, but the best part was the fact that everyone liked to be photographed. I came home with some fabulous memories and a large collection of great shots. My only regret was travelling such a long way for only a ten-day stay. I plan to return at the first opportunity and spend much more time touring this fabulous country.
